A 64-year-old Ohio woman was killed last month by a buck that was kept in a pen on her family’s property.

According to WTRF, after receiving reports of an animal attack, Belmont County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the home on the night of November 15.

Family members told deputies that when Jodi Proger got trapped inside an enclosure with the buck that became aggressive, they tried to rescue her and kill the deer but were unable to do so before deputies arrived. Deputies later shot the animal. Sadly, by the time first responders reached Proger, she’d died from her injuries.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is working with the Ohio Department of Agriculture and the coroner to investigate the incident.
