If you’ve been online within the past couple weeks, you’ve probably seen the viral footage of the charter boat captain in Punta Gorda, Florida, who was filmed throwing a tantrum and aggressively threatening and boarding the boat of a man who accused the captain of unsafe boating practices.

According to Fox 13, the charter captain, Brock Horner, 40, was taken into custody and charged with burglary with assault or battery, non-forced entry. Horner was released from the Charlotte County Jail Saturday morning on $20,000 bond, Punta Gorda Police Chief Pam Smith said in a press conference.

On April 1, young boater Gage Towles filmed Horner screaming at him near a bridge on the Peace River. Footage shows Horner pulling his boat alongside Towles’ boat without permission and then unlawfully boarding it.

The Punta Gorda Police Department, U.S. Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission issued a joint press release concerning the incident. Investigators say Horner is accused of threatening Towles, escalating the incident into a criminal offense.

In addition to the criminal investigation, the U.S. Coast Guard and FWC are conducting separate investigations because of the location of the incident.

"This type of behavior will not be tolerated in our waterways — or anywhere else in our city," Smith said. "We are committed to ensuring the safety of our residents and visitors, both on land and on the water."

Heraldtribune.com reports the incident actually began at about 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 30. During a press conference, Smith says Horner reportedly drove under the Barron Collier Bridge in Punta Gorda at "a high rate of speed," coming within 10 feet of Towles' boat and within 5 feet of another boat in the same area. All three boaters exchanged words at the time, Smith said.

Two days later, at 7:30 p.m., as Towles was fishing alone in the same area, Horner pulled his boat nearby and began berating and cursing at Towles. In the video, you can hear Horner accusing Towles of cursing at him during the previous encounter and not having his lights on in the early morning. While denying both accusations, Towles repeatedly attempted to calm Horner down as the older man continued to scream at him. Towles tried to explain that Horner had him confused with someone else but that Horner couldn't come "flying through the bridge area," which seemingly infuriated Horner even more.

As the confrontation continued, Towles can be heard on the video saying he was the "best charter captain you will ever meet in your (expletive) life." He then jumped onboard Towles’ boat and hit the throttle, sending Towles' boat racing off with both men in it.

Smith says that Horner grabbed Towles by the shirt and that the younger man was so afraid for his life that he considered jumping off the boat.

Horner's attorney provided a statement to WBBH, saying, "Brock is not proud of how he acted. But it’s important to remember: We are not the sum of our worst day. That video captured one moment — not the whole of who he is. Since the video went viral, Brock’s business has been destroyed, his reputation damaged, and his family — including his wife and mother — have been harassed and even threatened."
