The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) has announced some changes to the 2024 fall turkey season. Firearm and archery turkey hunters must now purchase a fall turkey hunting permit.
According to kfvs12.com, fall turkey season is now split into archery and firearms portions, and the combined harvest limit has also been reduced from four birds to only two, male or female.
The two turkey permits cost $14 and are required for both archery and firearm hunters. They must be purchased separately from deer archery permits.
According to the MDC, the fall turkey hunting regulations changed after a public request. The changes offer a way to reduce the fall harvest of turkeys while maintaining opportunity for hunters.
Heartland MDC Agent Travis Phillips recommends picking up a new fall deer and turkey brochure if you have questions about the changes. The brochure can be found for free at your conservation center or places where permits are sold.
The first portion of archery turkey and deer season opened Sunday, September 15, and will run through November 15.
