Pennsylvania police are searching for the person who spray painted a deer with the word “pet” on its sides.

According to CBS News, the Cornwall Borough Police Department was called when a spray-painted antlerless male deer walked up to a business in West Cornwall Township in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. The word “pet” was spray painted in bright orange letters on both of the animal’s sides.

The Cornwall Borough Police Department said in a Facebook post the deer, which showed no fear of people, acted like he wanted the officer to pet him. The deer didn’t even run off when an officer turned on the cruiser's sirens. Instead, it hung around for about 45 minutes and then eventually went on its way.

A state game warden, who came out to take a report, told police that the deer was likely someone's pet that was left loose in the wild. The spray paint was apparently an attempt to keep hunters from shooting it.

Since it’s illegal to keep deer as pets in Pennsylvania, authorities are asking anyone with information about this deer to call the Pennsylvania Game Commission at 833-742-4868.
