The homeowner scared the bears away by knocking on the window
A Colorado homeowner captured footage of a black bear cub opening the front door to his home with seemingly little effort.
Fox News reports that the footage was taken in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and shows two young black bear cubs. In the video, you see one of the cubs rearing up on its hind legs and then using its paws to turn the handle of the home’s front door.
The bear then starts walking backward to open the door as the other bear looks on. The homeowner starts banging on the window to scare the bears away. The bear then releases its grip on the door and walks away. The other bear follows a few minutes later.
On its website, Colorado Parks & Wildlife (CPW) says, "Black bears have lived in the foothills and forests of Colorado since long before the pioneers arrived.
"Today black bears are trying to share space with an ever-growing human population," it added. "With many more people living and playing in bear country, human-bear encounters are on the rise."
The CPW encourages people to not feed bears or other wildlife.
"Burn food off barbecue grills and clean after each use" and "Keep all bear-accessible windows and doors closed and locked, including home, garage, and vehicle doors."
