The bear bit the woman on the wrist and ran off
A woman is recovering from a bite wound on her wrist sustained when she punched a bear in the nose after it chased her dog.
According to USA Today, Lynn Kelly, 65, was working in her garden in Porter, Maine, the afternoon of Friday, June 30, when her dog began barking and ran into the woods. When Kelly called for her dog, it ran out of the woods while being chased by a bear, the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife said in a news release.
“Kelly confronted the bear head on, and when the bear stood up, she stood up as tall as she could, then punched the bear in the nose,” the wildlife department said.
When Kelly hit the bear, it bit her right hand and punctured her wrist before running back into the woods, the wildlife department said.
Kelly called 911 and was taken by ambulance to a hospital where she was treated for puncture wounds on her wrist.
