Hannah Barron’s Father Breaks Neck and Back Falling From Treestand

Jeff Barron says he’s lucky to be alive, but must wear a neck and back brace for the next three months

Popular outdoor social media influencer and Realtree pro staffer Hannah Barron recently alerted her friends and fans to a terrifying incident that involved her father, Jeff Barron. In a YouTube video showing Hannah sitting beside her bloodied father lying in a hospital bed with a neck brace, Hannah explains that he was seriously injured during a fall from a treestand.

She said Jeff climbed up into a friend’s lock-on treestand to inspect it. When he stepped over onto the platform, the top strap broke and he fell 18 to 20 feet to the ground.

He was knocked unconscious, and when he came to, he was unable to call anyone because he didn’t have his cell phone with him.

“The tough joker walked 400 yards back, climbed a fence, and got into his truck and drove home,” Hannah said in the video.

He was taken to the hospital, where the extent of his serious injuries was revealed. He suffered two fractured vertebrae in both his neck and lower back. He also suffered a bruised kidney. Fortunately, he wasn’t paralyzed by his injuries, but his recovery plan includes wearing a neck and back brace for the next three months to aid in the healing process.

“He’s lucky to be alive. He’s lucky to not be paralyzed, and now we’ve just got to make sure he takes care of himself until it heals so he doesn’t end up that way,” Hannah said on the video.

Both Hannah and Jeff are using this experience to stress the importance of using a harness and lifeline when climbing into a treestand.

“Get you a harness. Look at me. I’ve climbed thousands of trees, but it don’t take but one,” Jeff said.

A YouTube video update the following day shows Hannah and Jeff at home recovering. Hannah expressed relief that her dad was no longer urinating blood due to his bruised kidney.
