Young Girl Attacked by Bear While Sleeping in Tent

The 3-year-old child, who was attacked at a Montana campground, is recovering
A black bear attacked and injured a 3-year-old girl as she slept in a tent at a Montana campground.
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (MFWP) officials said a female bear attacked the girl around 10 p.m. Sunday, August 11, while she slept in tent at a private campground near the town of Red Lodge.
According to foxweather.com, the child was then hospitalized and treated for her injuries at a medical facility in Billings.
That night, MFWP staff worked with the owner of the campground to evacuate the premises by the following morning. Traps were set at the campsite that night, and more traps and snares were added once the campground was evacuated.
A bear believed to be the one that attacked the girl was captured Monday afternoon and then euthanized. According to FWP, the bear killed displayed the same physical characteristics as described by those who saw the bear that attacked the child.
Although the bear had no history of conflicts, the MFWP believes it had become food-conditioned after being able to access unsecured food items and other attractants nearby.
