The 15-year-old boy was watching TV when the bear attacked him from behind
A bear entered a cabin in the Arizona town of Alpine and attacked a 15-year-old boy who was sitting on the couch watching TV.
According to fox10phoenix.com, the bear came through an open door and attacked Bringham Hawkins from behind. Fortunately, his 18-year-old brother came to the rescue.
"The bear came into the cabin and from behind the couch, from what we were piecing together, swatted at him and scratched his face," Carol Hawkins, Bringham’s mother, said.
Brigham had just finished fishing and went to the family's bunk house to watch TV. His other family members were in the cabin about 20-feet away.
Brigham has a rare genetic disorder and his siblings take extra care to look out for him.
"He started screaming but he [Parker] could barely hear him, so he went to go check on him, and he thought it was a dog. He thought it was a really large dog," Carol said.
Brigham’s brother ran to the bunkhouse and when the bear saw him, its started chasing him.
While the older brother distracted the bear, Bringham’s dad was able to help his son escape to safety.
The bear scratched Bringham’s face and arms, but his mother said she’s just thankful he wasn’t more seriously injured.
"No matter what you do, bad things can happen. I just feel blessed that things worked out the way they did. I really don't feel like it’s luck, it's a blessing," she said.
Authorities located and euthanized the bear, which they believe was three years old. They are testing it for rabies.
