Video Shows Hundreds of Alligators Swarming in Georgia Swamp

Wildlife experts say the reptiles were gathered because of low water levels

Everyone knows Georgia’s Okefenokee Swamp is full of alligators, but one boater ended up surrounded by hundreds of them as he motored through the water.

According to yahoo.com, Marty Welch filmed and shared footage of the July 18 encounter on Facebook. It shows him slowly trying to navigate through the water without hitting the reptiles. In the video, you can hear Welch say to his companion, “There’s gators everywhere! They’re laying on the banks. You might want to sit down!”

The alligators seem relatively unbothered by the boat.

But why were so many alligators congregated in one location? Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge also shared the video on Facebook and explained in the caption, “This behavior is not a regular occurrence but it’s completely normal in times of low water levels when their food sources are more concentrated.”
