The sow had to pull the young bear out of the river a second time after it fell back in

Mama bears are known for their protective instincts, and one family got to witness these instincts at work when a sow ran to her cub’s rescue after it fell off of a bridge into the river below.

According to USA Today, a family was filming the two bears walking along a bridge over the Pequabuck River in the village of Terryville in Plymouth, Connecticut, when the drama unfolded.

You can hear a woman yelling in panic after the cub fell from the bridge. Then you see the mother bear pacing about as she tried to figure out how to reach the cub. She then runs down to the river and jumps in, pulling her baby to the shore. But the cub falls back in, so the mother has to retrieve it a second time. The mother and cub were later spotted walking back into the forest.
