My Sunsets
OK, I know these aren't actually my sunsets, after all, who can truly claim a sunset? But the photos are mine and so are the memories tied to each one. I treasure these images, not just because they're beautiful, but because of how they make me feel when I think of the people I shared them with. I not only see the bright oranges, yellows and reds streaking across the sky, but I see the smiles of hunting buddies after a successful day afield. I hear my college friends laughing as we reminisce about the good old days, and I see my my dear friend, who passed away a couple of years ago, standing there quietly beside me as we watched the sun disappear into the horizon.
I hope you enjoy these sunset images. I'd love to see yours as well!
I took this sunset photo while turkey hunting in Oklahoma. I'll never forget the vibrant orange color that filled the sky that evening. Most of all, I'll never forget sharing this sunset with my friend and outdoor writer Mike Lambeth, who passed away a few years ago. I have this image framed in my house. It's one of my favorites.
I tagged my first deer with a bow on this hunt in Texas. This beautiful sunset was the perfect ending to a most memorable hunt. I think the tree gives this image a haunting appeal.
Here is another view of that gorgeous sunset I experienced during my Texas bowhunt.
I didn't tag a turkey on this Nebraska hunt, but a new friend and first-time hunter did. I got to enjoy the thrill of her successful hunt along with this gorgeous sunset.
This was the view from the lodge in Nebraska where I stayed during my friend's successful first turkey hunt. Not bad, eh?
I enjoyed this Mississippi sunset after hunting turkeys with wounded female veterans. What a remarkable group of women and what a sunset!
I remember listening to gobblers headed to their roost as the sun began to set on this Mississippi evening. I felt perfectly content as the sun slowly descended behind the trees.
This Wyoming sunset marked the first evening of my first pronghorn hunt. I love the wide-open terrain and how the horizon just seems to go on forever.
This photo doesn't do this Wyoming sunset justice. I'll never forget the vivid pinks, purples and blues that spanned the sky that August evening.
The Great Smoky Mountains are near and dear to my heart. I make regular pilgrimages to this national park with my family to hike and photograph the scenery and wildlife.
My college friend has a condo overlooking a small lake in Destin, Florida. We enjoy sitting out on the back porch watching the sun set as waterfowl and turtles search for food in the evenings.
I took this image just a couple of weeks ago from my friend's back deck in Destin, Florida. I love how the red and orange colors reflect off the water.
This Jamaican sunset was one of the most beautiful I've ever witnessed. My husband and I enjoyed a week of snorkeling, kayaking and just lounging around. Each evening we'd snuggle up in an oversized lounge chair and watch the sun set over the water.
I snapped this image just before the sun disappered on the horizon over the ocean in Jamaica. Isn't it stunning?
I love being out on the beach as the sun sets. While everyone else heads inside to get ready for dinner, I gladly volunteer to go last so I can watch the sun cast its beautiful colors across the water and sand.
