I was anti-air fryer for a long time. I’m an old-school, cast-iron, cook-with-fire-and-grease kind of guy. Why would I need another appliance cluttering up the kitchen counter? Then my wife informed me that we were getting an air fryer, and I used it a few times … and then a few more. Now I like it. Besides being the perfect way to reheat leftover wings and pizza, it makes some pretty passable “fried” type food, without the work and mess of actually frying stuff.

We’ve used crushed BBQ potato chips as a crust for wild turkey before. It’s a great way to put a different twist on traditional fried strips. For this recipe, we turned to Pringles as the crust. Hot Honey Pringles to be exact, because Hot Honey is the best Pringle flavor ever made.

Hot Honey Pringles are perfect for adding a sweet and spicy flavor to your wild turkey.

Unlike traditional potato chips, which are made from thinly sliced potatoes that are then fried or baked, Pringles are made from a mix of powdered, dehydrated potatoes, corn, rice, and wheat. The mixture gives them their classic texture and crunch. It also makes for a crispy, flavorful coating on a wild turkey strip.

The Pringles formula of potatoes, corn, rice and wheat flour give the finished product a satisfying crunch

Start by adding 1 sleeve of Hot Honey Pringles to a gallon-sized ziplock bag.

Add the chips to a zip style bag, then crush them into a powder

Use a rolling pin to roll and crush the chips into a fine powder. Pour the crushed chips into a shallow dish.

Add a tablespoon of your favorite BBQ rub to the melted butter. Stir with a fork to combine. Dip the turkey breast strips into seasoned melted butter, one at a time.

Use the seasoned melted butter as a binder for the crushed Pringles.

Go from the butter immediately into the crushed Pringles.

Coat the buttered turkey strips with the crushed chips.

Place the dipped turkey onto a sheet pan and lightly spray each side with cooking spray.

Give the dredged turkey a quick spray with butter-flavored non-stick spray.

Transfer the strips to your air fryer and cook for 9-10 minutes at 400 degrees, flipping once halfway through the cooking time.

The strips should come out nice and crisp after about 10 minutes in the air fryer.

Serve the fingers with your favorite dipping sauces.
