Donation sites have been set up to support the hunters' families
Donation websites have been set up for the families of the seven hunting buddies who died in the January 29 plane crash in D.C. The hunters, who were from the D.C. area, were returning from a waterfowl hunt in Kansas when a military helicopter collided with American Airlines Flight 5342 as it approached the Ronald Reagan National Airport.
According to The Kansas City Star, the seven hunters had traveled to Kansas as a party of 10 to hunt with outfitter Fowl Plains, based out of Great Bend. Three of the hunters chose to drive home, rather than fly, for easier transport of their dogs and shotguns.
The seven who perished in the plane crash are listed as Jesse Pitcher, 30; Michael Stovall, 40; Steve Johnson, 45; Alexander Huffman, 34; Charles McDaniel, 44; Jonathan Boyd, 40; and Tommy Clagett, 38.
Photos from the hunt show they bagged nice drake northern pintails and dozens of snow geese, Canada geese, and specklebellies.
All 64 people aboard the airplane and the three pilots in the helicopter perished in the crash. Chase White, an owner of Fowl Plains, said he and the hunters all shared meals and conversations together. He said some of the men were returning clients.
“For them to be able to do something for the last five or six days that they all loved together,” White said, “you know, I think that is something really special for sure.”
Those who wish to donate to a general fund supporting all of the hunters’ families, can do so here.
