The man suffered injuries to his head and arms
A black bear attacked an Oregon man after he shot it twice for harassing his chickens.
According to Fox News, Craig Lankford is recovering from the injuries he received from the bear on the morning of Wednesday, May 24, in La Grande.
The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) said in a news release that Lankford shot the bear the first time on Tuesday evening as it was disturbing his chickens.
The following morning, Lankford told officials that he searched for the bear and encountered it near his property, where he shot it a second time. That’s when the wounded bear attacked him.
Lankford suffered injuries to his arms and head. He received treatment at a hospital and is expected to recover.
After learning a wounded bear was in the area, deputies closed nearby roads. Oregon State Police and ODFW officers were called to the scene and assisted in the search for the animal. About three hours later, officials found an adult male black bear with brown coloring that matched the victim’s description near the site of the attack. They euthanized the bear at the scene and a necropsy found bullets consistent with Lankford’s.
