Utah hunters can now get a payout of $100 per coyote harvested – up from $50 per animal.
According to kpcw.org, the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) created the Predator Control Program to manage wildlife populations that endanger the health of nonpredatory wildlife. Previously, hunters received $50 for each documented coyote taken.
The DWR board recently voted to increase the reward for coyote removals in crucial and substantial mule deer habitat to $100.
The Utah Predator Control Program Report states in 2024, a total of 3,045 coyotes were checked in for $152,250 in compensation, a decrease of 20% compared to 3,798 coyotes in 2023. In 2024, 326 individuals submitted coyotes through the General Predator Control Program.
According to the DWR, coyotes primarily kill deer fawns and can produce more than six pups per year.
