A crew member was hit, but only suffered a torn shirt and minor scratch. The entire encounter was caught on video

A crew member on a deep-sea fishing trip near Perdido Pass in Orange Beach was lucky to escape without serious injury when a blue marlin leaped into the boat, striking the man.

According to wkrg.com, Thomas Arendall was one of six men who left out of Orange Beach aboard a 68-foot Hatteras Fishing Boat named Jubilee. The group was fishing near the oil platform known as Delta House on July 19 when angler Jon Houston Warr hooked a blue marlin. As Warr reeled the fish toward the boat, the marlin went airborne into the boat, hitting Arendall and then fought its way back into the water.

“Never saw the blue marlin coming at me,” Arendall said. “I had no clue what hit me.”

Tyler Creel, an employee of Zeke’s Marina, said, “I couldn’t believe it. I was shocked. That guy is extremely lucky that it was not worse than it was.”

The crew captured the encounter on video, which has amassed more than 39 million views on TikTok.
