Pope and Young (P&Y) has announced that the Rocky Mountain bull elk shot last year in Washington by bowhunter Casey Brooks is the new P&Y World Record Non-Typical Elk.

According to Billings Gazette, the bull missed breaking the Boone and Crocket Club’s (B&C) record by less than half-an-inch.

For the first time ever, a special panel of experienced measurers from both P&Y and B&C gathered in Lacey, Washington, on October 13 to verify the scoring.

Brooks arrowed the record-breaking bull in Kittitas County on December 31, 2024. The bull’s official score was 478 2/8 inches, which surpassed the previous Pope and Young World Record by 28 6/8 inches.

“From a scoring and verification standpoint, this bull was remarkable in every way,” said Roy Grace, records chairman for Pope and Young. “The mass, tine length, and overall configuration made it clear early on that we were witnessing something special. It’s a true testament to the conservation success of bowhunting and wildlife management.”

Brooks pursued the specific bull for two years before he was able to get within bow range.
