Security Footage Shows Coyote Chasing Child Across Portland Lawn

A home security camera caught frightening footage of a coyote chasing a 4-year-old girl in her Northeast Portland backyard. The child jumped onto a small picnic table in the backyard to get away, and yelled for her father, who was nearby and quickly scared the coyote away.

Security camera footage then shows the coyote run toward other children before running away.

The father, Charlie Schmidt, told KGW he's seen coyotes around the neighborhood before but has never experienced anything like this.

“I was happy that nothing happened but a little scared that it was chasing them," he said. "That seems a little abnormal for their behavior.”
