The reptile measured approximately 9 feet long

Video footage shows brave police officers jumping onto an angry alligator's back in the streets of Tampa.

According to Miami Herald, the encounter happened around 1 a.m. Wednesday, March 29. Police arrived on the scene after receiving reports of an alligator roaming the streets.

In the footage, you see the alligator growling and whipping its tail. It becomes more agitated as an officer grabs onto its tail and ropes it around its snout.

After coming up with a game plan, one of the officers grabs the gator's head while another officer jumps onto its body as civilians gasp from a safe distance. They use duct tape to seal the alligator's mouth shut, and place a towel over its eyes to calm it.

Police wrote on a YouTube post, No alligators [or officers] were injured in this 'jaw-dropping' video.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission relocated the alligator to a more suitable area.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission called professional trapper Phil Walters to the scene. He told WFLA a 9-foot alligator in traffic could do serious damage to a vehicle.

If you had hit him in a small car, you'd be totaled, Walters told the station.
