A home-surveillance camera captured the dramatic footage
A home-surveillance camera caught footage of a 5-year-old girl being chased by a coyote in her own front yard in Park Villa, Illinois.
Christine Przybylski had just walked to her mailbox to check for her Halloween costume, which had not arrived. As she approached a swing in her front yard, a coyote charged her. In the surveillance footage, you can see the animal lurking nearby, but Christine didn't see it until it got very close.
The coyote came running full speed across the front yard, circled the tree, and ran right at
the girl, coming so close she could feel it.
"I feeled (sic) its ear," she told ABC 11. "It almost bited (sic) my rib."
"We heard the scream," her mother Elizabeth Przybylski said. "She came in with this wild story."
"I was like, 'Mom! Mom! I saw! I saw a coyote!'" Christine said.
When her parents reviewed their home surveillance footage, they saw she was telling the truth.
"He really pursued her violently, and I'm so glad she got away," Elizabeth said.
Her mother said Christine won't be playing unaccompanied in the front yard again any time soon.
Neighbors say they often hear coyotes at night in the nearby woods. Now that one has chased a child, they plan to contact local authorities to see what can be done.
