Watch Neighbor Come to Rescue of Young Boy Approached by Large Bear

Startling video footage shows the moment a neighbor scared off a large black bear that had approached a young boy riding his scooter in a British Columbia neighborhood.

As the bear walks toward 7-year-old Huxley in broad daylight, the boy freezes and stares at the animal until it stops in its tracks.

Then, Huxley’s neighbor appears in the video footage with his arms raised. He walks toward the bear, which runs behind a car and eventually scurries away.

Huxley’s mother Britney told Inside Edition that she’s warned her son about possible bear encounters.

“We’ve had a conversation about being aware. ‘Hey, be aware of your surroundings. If there is a bear and you’re not with an adult, you know, be calm,’” Britney says.

Wildlife experts say if you are confronted with a back bear, it’s best to remain calm and look as big and overpowering as possible.

“I think most adults, even in that moment, would’ve perhaps panicked or run away,” Britney says. “Not everybody knows what to do there, so I’m super proud of him.”
