Man Films Charging Moose While Hanging Trail Cameras

The intense encounter from Maine shows the bull approaching to 3 feet before charging

A hunter who was hanging trail cameras in the Maine wilderness filmed the moment that he was attacked by a bull moose. In the footage, the moose postures aggressively toward the man, whose only protection is a couple of small trees between him and the massive animal.

The man told wmtw.com that he walked into a large swamp in Aroostook County around 8 a.m. Tuesday, September 24 to set up a few game cameras when he heard the bellowing sound of a cow moose in heat.

He then saw three bulls surrounding the cow, competing for her attention.

He said when one of the bulls heard him coming and approached him, he pulled out his phone and started recording.

The moose approached to within 3 feet of the man, who can be heard in the video telling the bull it was "close enough" multiple times.

"Most moose that we have encountered are spooked by a human voice. Unfortunately, in his rut-crazed mind, I was still another bull trying to take his cow," the man wrote in a message to Maine's Total Coverage.

On the video, the man can be heard telling the moose to "get out of here," before the bull suddenly charges. The man could be heard screaming before the video cuts off. He says that he turned his back to the moose and put his left hand back in an attempt to block the antlers from goring him. He said the bull knocked him to the ground, where he slid about 6 feet from the impact, but that fortunately the bull was scared away by the yelling. The man walked out of the swamp safely with a few bumps and bruises, and a heck of a story.
